From The East Cork Journal.
Christmas is the time of year which, for some of our elderly and those living on their own, can be particularly lonesome and even worrying. Their normal routine is disrupted – shops are closed, footfall outside their doors is very much reduced, the days are dark, and neighbours are away celebrating with family and friends, bringing loneliness and aloneness to many at this Festive time.
Youghal Senior Citizens is a voluntary Group which aims to support the independence and well-being of the elderly and vulnerable people in the local community of Youghal. Each week, with the help of volunteers, they provide a Meals on Wheels Service which includes a nutritious and healthy meal which is delivered to each door. For some who receive the meals, it might be the only person they see each week, and the only conversation they may have with another human being.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal this week, Richard Lane, Co-Ordinator of The Youghal Senior Citizens Group assured that over the Christmas period they will be delivering meals, which are expertly and professionally prepared by Le Gourmet, and nobody will be left without their dinner. He went on to explain that meals are delivered three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and meals can be ordered to suit an individual’s needs, which can be availed of short or long term.
Richard also confirmed that Youghal Senior Citizens will be delivering meals during the Christmas period as follows – Monday December 23rd, Friday December 27th, Monday December 30th and Friday, January 3rd.
This is a tremendous service and, for anyone who may not be availing of the Meals on Wheels and would like to do so, there are three different ways in which you can arrange it. You can make your request through the Public Health Nurse, your Doctor, or self-referral and Richard has kindly given his number to The East Cork Journal for publication so that those who would like to avail of the Meals on Wheels – even on a short period – can telephone him on 087 385 1764.
Have a Happy Christmas everyone.
