Sandra McLellan has been appointed to the role of Youghal Chamber of Development and Tourist Office Manager. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, she said, “It is a role I’m very much looking forward to. It’s a real opportunity to help showcase Youghal and its fantastic local and diverse businesses, not to mention its envied natural and historic amenities.” A Youghal girl born and bred, Sandra is no stranger to roles that involve promoting Youghal, out of pure love of the town as well as in her employment capacity. In the past, she has been an elected member of Youghal Town Council, Cork County Council and a TD in Dáil Eireann where she was Opposition Spokesperson for Tourism, Sports, Arts and Heritage. If that wasn’t enough, she was also Mayor of Youghal 2009 -2010.
“Having lived in Youghal all my life”, she said, “I am honoured to have the opportunity to promote Youghal to the best of my ability. As current PRO of the local voluntary community development group, Youghal4All, our goal has been on Youghal’s enhancement and promotion to a wider audience. I’m excited to focus all the experience I have gained over the years and do my utmost for the economic development of the town and the promotion of its hard working businesses. Youghal has so much to offer people of all ages. The beach is magnificent and synonymous with fun. We have some brilliant local voluntary charities, societies and sports clubs for people in which people can get involved and shops, restaurants, accommodation and entertainment for locals and visitors alike.”
Youghal town has plenty of family friendly activity coming up in the next few weeks. This weekend Darkness Into Light takes place and on the weekend 17-19 May, the Homebirds Music Festival will be in venues all over town, followed shortly thereafter by the Moby Dick Festival on the June Bank Holiday weekend and then, of course, Ironman.
Youghal is indeed a gem of a town.
