Lifeguards wanted to patrol Cork’s beaches this summer

CORK County Council has begun recruiting beach lifeguards for the 2019 summer season.

There are 13 lifeguard stations located on the Cork coast at; Front Strand, Youghal, Claycastle in Youghal, Redbarn Youghal, Garryvoe, Fountainstown, Inchydoney, Owenahincha, The Warren, Tragumna, Barleycove, Garrettstown and Garrylucas.

Recruitment is now underway for the 2019 season.

Lifeguards will be on duty each weekend in June and then full time for July and August and weekends only in September.

Each candidate must be not less than 17 years of age on 23rd March and hold a current valid Beach Lifeguard Award from the Irish Water Safety Association or equivalent.

They must also have a thorough knowledge of resuscitation including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Duties of beach lifeguards include the safety of beachgoers, checking equipment on a daily basis, placing conditions flags, providing directions and warnings to bathers and maintaining a log book of all incidents.
