The oral Irish exam is now worth 40% of the total marks in the Leaving Cert Irish exam. This course facilitates the opportunity for 5th and 6th classes, as well as 1st year students, to improve their conversational Irish in a concentrated yet fun environment. As well as the classes, from 10am to 3.30pm there will be games and social events every afternoon when all that has been learned in class can be put into real practice. Afternoon activities include hurling, camogie, rounders, table tennis, fancy dress, basketball, céilí dancing, ceol agus craic to name but a few. Students are encouraged, and expected, to speak Gaeilge throughout the course, and this rule has been made in the interest of students themselves to attain the maximum benefit from the course. For those who remember the Irish course which was held in Youghal several years ago, there will be some fun and fond memories. The course will run Monday to Friday inclusive for two weeks starting July 9 and costs €155. There is a €50 no-refundable deposit with special rates available for siblings attending together.
