The launch of “The Diary” by Ruth Hayes took place at The Mall Arts Centre on Thursday 5th March 2015. The Diary is a new ten part series and will air this month on CRY104fm. The cast and crew were joined by family, friends and supporters and lots of local media and national press as well as Irish TV. MC for the evening was Eileen McCarthy Thompson who introduced the various actors, dignitaries and of course the writer herself Ruth Hayes to the large crowd. This is CRY 104FM’s fourth radio drama which was produced and recorded at the local Claycastle recording studios.
The Diary is a new radio drama series about a mother, a daughter and the fight to get their fractured relationship back on track. They begin reading a diary which Veronica’s grand uncle Jerry kept during World War One. Through reading the story of Jerry’s courage, friendships and realities of war Veronica and Leah see themes echoed in their own lives 100 years later. The Diary is inspired by the real life journaling of Ruth’s grand uncle Jeremiah O’ Shaughnessy of the first Leinster regiment. Using the actual time lines and most of Jeremiah’s real diary entries The Diary takes us through one man’s experience of the Great War’ …
Speaking at the Launch series Producer Darragh Parker paid tribute to the extremely talented acting Community that now exists in Youghal and said that Community Radio Youghal was honoured to be able to provide a platform for talented writers ,directors, Sound Engineers and of course actors from all ages and backgrounds ,
He also paid tribute to Writer Ruth Hayes who has brought to life her Grand Uncles last few months serving in World War 1 and has created a lasting legacy that her family should be extremely proud of.
Following on from the success of the Drama series Harbour View and the Award winning The Delaney’s- Behind The Mic , all of which were recorded under the stewardship of Warren Tivy of Claycastle Recording , The Diary is sure to be extremely popular among the stations ever growing listenership and is another example of how we in Youghal can produce programmes to rival anyone in the Country right now.
The Diary is a new ten part series & will air on the 15th of March on CRY104FM at 11.45am with the repeat going out on Wednesday’s at 7.30pm.
