Kay Donnelly, who is passionate about local history, explores one of Youghal’s lesser known stories. Florence Newton was referred to in several English witchcraft pamphlets of the time as “The Famous Irish Witch” but there is no mention of her in any contemporary records from Ireland.
There were very few witch trials in Ireland and that of Florence Newton is amongst the best documented. We look forward to finding out who she was; why she was prosecuted and how it all ended.
