“Smile in a While” is CRY104fm’s brand new 2 part documentary on Aspirant Community Radio Station Smile fm.

Set up in 2012 by a group of volunteers trying to make a difference in their community Smile in a while traces the progress of this Community Group as they try to set up a Community Radio station to serve the expanding town of Carrigtwohill and the Communities in the seven mile radius of the East Cork town including Midleton, Glounthane, Little Island and the surrounding areas
In what will be a practical guide and a template for other Communty Groups and aspirant Community Radio Stations , “Smile in a while” will trace the story of a fledgling Community Group as they go about trying to implement what they see as a valuable service for their local area that being a Community Radio Station which they hope will act as a catalyst and a focal point for Community development and Community integration in the East Cork area

In this 2 part series we will hear the stories of the volunteer presenters involved in Smile fm , how and why they got involved in the group ,their radio experience and training so far and what role they will play when they finally get on the air

The series will document the groups progress to date as they recruit and train new volunteers, plan their fundraising activities , try to secure Capital funding for equipment and premises and secure a broadcasting licence from the BAI ,while also deciding on the Governance of the station and how they go about deciding just what kind of local radio station the Community they hope to serve want and need.
