The July edition of THIS ISLAND NATION monthly hour-long radio programme will hear from the last man alive of the islanders who were evacuated from the Blaskets. As a youngster he was described as “the loneliest boy in the world, whose only playmates are seagulls.” Gearóid Cheaist Ó Catháin has a fascinating and evocative story to tell.
The programme will also hear about the piratical history of Kinsale and its harbour and discussed with the President of the Irish Sailing Association, David Lovegrove, declining interest in the sport.
As well there will be items about Loop Head Lighthouse and reports from the RNLI, Irish Water Safety and why blue sharks are of so much interest of the Irish coast at present.
Tune in to This Island Nation on CRY104FM at 6.30pm on Wednesday 2nd July.
