The phenomenal number of entries to the inaugural Expo 2019 from artists of all genres, both budding and established, and the huge viewing attendance at the Mall Arts Centre over the 3 day event, was testament to the talents which abound in the Youghal, East Cork and West Waterford areas.
Oil Paintings, Water Colours, Textiles, Tapestries and Photography, were among the amazing entries in the event, which was organised by Yew Wood Venues YSED, and kindly hosted in The Mall Arts Centre, with all proceeds going directly to Youghal RNLI.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal Sinead Goggin, Yew Wood Venues, said the Expo was organised to encourage artists of all levels to submit their work and, during the three day event, many who came to view the paintings were encouraged enough to say “I might put something in myself next year!”
Local icons included Walter Verling, Wm Fields who submitted authentic photographs from 1916 and 1938, and William Keniry who brought along a Viking Chair and Yew Tree chair which attracted a lot of interest.
A total of 56 Artists submitted over 150 art works, and an independent panel of adjudicators which included Jessica Bonenfant, Greywood Sarah Randall and John Philip Murray, deliberated over two full days having great difficulty deciding on the Exhibits.
Sinead extended sincere thanks to everyone involved with the planning and organisation of the very successful event, including Will and Eileen McGoldrick whose support and encouragement was matched with their wonderful work in the planning and hanging of the Exhibition; the adjudicators who had such a difficult task; Mall Arts Centre for hosting the event; the many people who came along to support it, and especially the 56 Artists for submitting their work and putting their confidence in the inaugural event.
And word has it that Expo 2020 is already in the planning!!
