European Parliament Election and Mayoral Plebiscites

Counting continues around the country for the European Parliament Election, however results will not become known until 10pm tonight at the earliest because polls are still open in 21 EU countries.

The vast bulk of paper in the Ireland South constituency, 7.3 tonnes in Cork alone, is causing a slow count. This is due to 23 candidates being on the ballot paper, which is over 2 feet long.

Counting in the Mayoral Plebiscites in Cork, Waterford and Limerick will begin on Monday morning.
