Plans for the 2018 St Patrick’s Day Parade in Youghal have this week been revealed.
Youghal 4 All are, once again, organising the festivities and their Secretary, Helen Heaphy Grainge, is calling on the groups and organisations of Youghal and the surrounding area, to come out and support this year’s parade, by entering a float, prior to the closing date for entries, which is Wednesday 7 March. The overall theme for the Youghal parade on Saturday 17 March is ‘Showcase Youghal’ and this year’s Grand Marshal is the 2017 Glamorous Grannies’ winner, Eileen Welch.
Speaking ahead of the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Youghal, Helen Heaphy Grainge said; ‘‘over the past number of years, the parade has grown year on year and we are looking forward to expanding again this year. We are asking all clubs, groups, businesses and societies to get involved this year, and we would be thrilled with their participation. Our theme this year is ‘Showcase Youghal’. If people are considering a float, or ideas, for this year, we ask that they give our theme some thought. We would especially like to see colourful acts, with floats and costumes, along with music. As always, a condition of participation is that all groups must have their own insurance to take part in the parade. Due to the expense of running such a successful and large parade, we would ask all taking part to give a donation of maybe €10.’’
Groups and individuals involved in the parade will assemble on Youghal’s Brehon Road on St Patrick’s Day at 12 midday; the festivities begin at 1pm sharp. All involved will be assigned a walking order, of which they will be informed prior to the event getting underway.
The parade will proceed along Catherine Street, Grattan Street, then on towards the Mall and Strand Street, before returning to Dolphin Square, via Friar Street, South Main Street and North Main Street. Immediately after that, the prize-giving ceremony will take place.
Helen has also requested that the winners of last year’s prizes return their respective trophies to the organisers. This will allow the parade committee to have the awards ready in good time for this year’s parade. The smaller plaques, which were given out, do not need to be returned
