Cork County Councillor Mary Linehan-Foley (Independent) is delighted to announce her intention to contest the 2016 General Election, hoping to win a seat in Dáil Eireann for Cork East.
Speaking about her decision, the Youghal-based councillor stated, ‘Having given the matter a lot of consideration over the past few months, and having consulted with my family, friends and campaign team, I now believe that this is the right time to take a step up to the next level.
‘Through my work as a Cork County Councillor it has become clear to me that there is a big need for the people of Cork East to be represented by a strong voice at a national level. It has become evident through the issues that I’ve been dealing with at county level that Cork East needs to be represented by an independent voice at national level.
‘Over the past two years, as an Independent councillor, I have been progressive on all of the issues that have been brought to me by my constituents. I believe that the freedom of being an Independent has been of major benefit to my constituents as I have the ability to work tirelessly with all members of the council – regardless of their affiliations.’
With over 17 years’ experience as an elected representative, Cllr. Linehan Foley notes, ‘I have gained a strong knowledge of political life and I now want to take that experience to a national level and represent the concerns of my constituents in Dáil Eireann. Throughout my entire political life I have always been passionate about the work that I do. If elected, it is my promise to the people of the Cork East constituency to bring that passion to Leinster House and to debate the issues that are important to them.’
The Youghal-based councillor concludes, ‘I am asking the people of the Cork East constituency to get behind me and vote for me as your Independent candidate in the upcoming General Election. Thank you.’
