The CRY104FM Outside Broadcast crew were in attendance at the turning on of the Christmas Lights in Youghal on Saturday 29th November. Our state of the art OB Unit was on display and it was great to be able to bring our listeners coverage of the day’s events.
Santa Claus arrived at Barry’s Lane behind the Youghal Pipe Band, who actually started the day off by playing a few tunes at the Ferry Point. Christy McCarthy spoke to us on CRY about the day and about the recent CRY documentary on the band. They are a big part of our town’s heritage and that was again obvious on Saturday.
DJ Barty played some Christmas tunes and did the countdown for the switching on of the lights. He really helped build a festive atmosphere in Youghal.
The crowd was growing throughout the evening and some of the onlookers kindly spoke to our on-site crew. This gave us the opportunity to bring the occasion to people at home and those listening online. It also helped local businesses which were listening in.
The lights look great and it was a very exciting day for us. We hope ye all like our new OB Unit, and thanks to all of you for making it possible.
