Major Reshuffle of Cork Priests

The Bishop of Cloyne has announced a major reshuffle of priests in the diocese and the retirement of three.

Bishop William Crean has accepted the resignation from office of V Rev Tom Browne, PP Youghal; V Rev Dan Gould, PP Killavullen; and V Rev Neilus O’Donnell, PP, Rathcormac, which all come into effect on September 6.

Meanwhile, the Bishop has made the following appointments: V Rev David Herlihy, PP Newmarket, to is to become PP in Youghal. Rev Francis Manning, CC Macroom, will be appointed PP in Newmarket, and Rev Eamon McCarthy, CC Freemount, is to be posted to Macroom

The Bishop has announced that V Rev Michael Leamy, Adm Cobh, is to be made PP in Rathcormac and Rev John McCarthy, CC Cobh, is to be appointed Adm Cobh.

In addition, Rev Gerard Condon, diocesan advisor for religious education, is to become PP Killavullen and diocesan advisor for religious education (post-primary)

Current pastoral co-ordinator Rev Jim Killeen is to carry out further studies; while Rev Jim Moore, CC, Mallow, will become diocesan secretary, and after a break from studies, Rev Paul Bennett is to be appointed CC Mallow.

Rev Patrick Relihan, chaplain, Coláiste na Trionoide, Youghal, is to take a break for further studies and Rev Michael Murphy, CC Youghal, is being allowed to take sabbatical leave.

He will be replaced as CC Youghal by Rev Patrick Corkery, CC Inch, while Rev Damien Lynch, CC Fermoy, will become chaplain Coláiste na Troinoide.

Meanwhile, Rev Mark Hehir, seconded to Diocese of Cork and Ross, is to become CC Fermoy. Rev Gabriel Burke, CC Carrigtwohill, to is being transferred to CC Mitchelstown, in a direct swap with Rev James Greene.

Finally, Rev Sean Corkery is being appointed diocesan advisor for religious education (primary) and director of adult faith formation.
